Architecture and implementation of an on-prem datahub for an international airport
Context
At an international airport, our challenge was to help our customer define and implement a data architecture to interface HR process tools. The aim was to facilitate migration to a new HR ERP developed by SAP. The customer's IT landscape included various applications, software packages and specific developments supporting a complex HR process. These data exchanges were currently managed by a static data exchange architecture (hard-coded DataFlows). As the IT landscape evolved, it became essential to improve data exchange to facilitate change, integrate new software packages and optimize the integration of digital tools. Our intervention included a needs assessment, the design of the target data architecture from a functional and technical point of view, as well as support for on-premises implementation.
Issues
The major challenges of this initiative were to enable more flexible data exchanges to adapt to changes, and to integrate several important functions such as quality management, lineage, and audit trail of exchanges. The complexity of the HR process demanded an evolution from a static architecture to a more dynamic solution, capable of responding to the customer's constantly evolving needs.
Solution and method
To meet these challenges, we proposed the implementation of an On Premise DataHub, following the key steps :
- Requirements scoping to inventory and model in detail all functions related to the impacted business process.
- Development of a target data model, forming the core of the DataHub.
- Detailed description of algorithms to guide task development.
- Support for developers in implementing complex algorithms.
Benefits
The results achieved have led to a significant improvement in data exchange, enabling more flexible change management, easy transition to new software packages, and better integration of digital tools. The implementation of the On Premise DataHub has enhanced the flexibility and robustness of the IT landscape, delivering significant benefits in terms of efficiency and performance.
